Macaque Monkey Species-Specific Orientation and Mandatory Online Training

B Virus Safety Training
This training is required of all staff working
with macaque monkeys regardless of prior experience with these
species at other institutions or facilities. Allow up to 1.5
hours per session. Send your training request to IACUC@ucsf.edu
Topics covered include:
- TB clearance procedures for staff working
with primates
- Discussion of the disease and routes of potential
exposure from macaques to people
- Post-exposure first aid regimen
- Testing of macaques
- Species characteristics and behavior
- Experimental and peri-operative considerations
- Anesthesia/analgesia
- Maintaining medical records
Annual Herpes B Online Safety Training
Herpes B Online Safety Training is available on Research Online. This training is an online audio course that provides education on safe work practices with non-human primates. All individuals working with or exposed to old world monkeys (macaques) are required to complete this course annually.
